Sport is about more than winning, it builds resilience, teamwork, confidence, and friendships that last a lifetime. In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, host Helen Farmer spoke with Jon Guntley, Head of Rackets at Cognita Enrich ME, about how sports can shape personal growth and inclusion both on and off the court.

With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, Jon shared how modern coaching focuses less on trophies and more on developing well-rounded individuals. He encouraged children to try multiple sports, learn discipline and responsibility through teamwork, and focus on personal bests rather than first place.

Jon also reflected on the importance of keeping sport fun, educating parents to let coaches guide, and build confidence in every child, whether they dream of medals or simply love to play. He noted the growing popularity of paddle and pickleball, which are helping make racket sports more accessible and social for young players.

This conversation highlights how sport, when taught with empathy and balance, helps students discover their strengths, build emotional resilience, and develop values like respect, dedication, and self-belief, skills that last far beyond the game and into every area of life.
